Thermodynamic and Structural Properties of CuCrO₂ and CuCr₂O₄: Experimental Investigation and Phase Equilibria Modeling of the Cu–Cr–O System

This work considers the equilibria between stable phases of Cr–Cu–O ternary chemical system at atmospheric pressure and in a large temperature range that includes high-temperature liquid phase. Based on thorough evaluation literature data, we performed complementary experimental investigations solid-phase properties (especially mixed oxides) by implementation spark plasma sintering microanalysis, X-ray diffraction combined with Rietveld analysis, differential thermal thermogravimetry. We show neither spinel CuCr2O4 nor delafossite CuCrO2 exhibit significant cationic nonstoichiometry. provide an assessment thermodynamic functions up to 1200 K, taking into account α/β phase transition. propose, for first time, consistent description based Calphad method, allowing computation reactions equilibria, including described modified quasichemical model.
